Fly Box Plugin for WordPress: Decrease Your Bounce Rate

Once users get to your site, you want to keep them there at all costs and for as long as possible. There are various ways to achieve this. Using a Fly Box plugin is one of them. A Fly Box/FlyOut Box plugin can help you to seriously decrease your bounce rate. It is a subtle yet effective way to display a list of related posts to your user.

A Fly Box is a popup window that slides out of the left or right side of your browser as the user scrolls towards the end of the article.

For a live example, check out the New York Times site or just scroll till the end of this article!

The idea is to bring the user’s attention to other related posts on your site. You can customize when the box appears: middle or end of the article or even at the end of the page. It is unobtrusive because it doesn’t block your main content. But it’s still eye catching because of its animated entrance. If the user scrolls back up, it slides right back out of view.

I love this widget for its elegance and user friendly nature. The Fly Box plugin is like a great waiter: gets the job done without being in your face about it. It gives much needed exposure to your (old)posts and decreases bounce rate, all the while keeping a low profile.

Here are a few options to get you started if you want to play around with it.

The box appears when the user scrolls down to a certain point down the page. The scroll distance is fixed for every page. You can specify how many pixels you’d like the user to scroll before the box appears. Read Next Fly Box keeps things simple by providing one style. It displays up to two posts with its feature image and title. It renders landscape images better than portrait ones in the resize of the thumbnail. All in all, a good place to start if you want to find out what a fly box is for and if all you need is basic functionality.

  1. I notice that you are using “nRelate Flyout” on this page to show a teaser to other posts. I just installed it on my site (version 1.3.1) but when I view a post on my site my “Ad Block Plus” plugin in my FireFox browser prevents it from showing.

Can you please tell me which version you are using and if you have modified the plugin somehow?

    Thanks.
